Health authorities are baffled by a mysterious illness that is claiming the lives of children in Northern Uganda.

It's been labelled 'nodding disease' because it causes the head to droop and can reduce one's mental capacity.

More than 3000 children aged 5 to 15 have been affected so far in three districts in the country's north.

Similar cases were reported in neighbouring countries but experts are no closer to finding a cure.

SBS's Jeannette Francis travelled to Uganda, from she filed this report.
