Labor facing west Sydney wipeout: poll

A new opinion poll shows Labor has an uphill battle to retain five marginal seats in western Sydney.

Five marginal Labor seats could be wiped out at the election, a Galaxy Research poll shows.

The seat of Reid, Werriwa, Lindsay, Greenway and Banks are in serious trouble according to the poll of 550 voters in each electorate, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Parramatta is too close to call and Barton is the only seat Labor has a chance of retaining.

The Liberal Party is ahead 52 to 48 per cent on a two party preferred basis in Banks, while Labor trails by three per cent in Greenway.

Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury could be a high profile casualty, losing the seat of Lindsay with two party preferred polling of 54 per cent to 46 per cent.

In Reid, Labor is behind 47 per cent to the Liberal Party's 53 per cent.

Werriwa has 52 per cent support for the Liberals compared to 48 per cent for Labor.

Labor has held Werriwa since 1934 while the party's retained the neighbouring seat of Reid since 1922.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will campaign in western Sydney on Friday promising to ease the red tape burden of small businesses.
