Immigration Minister Tony Burke met his main opponent, Ron Delezio, in a panel forum hosted by SBS Arabic Radio in Haldon Street on Saturday.
The seat of Watson, which covers Lakemba, is considered a safe Labor seat, but its margin shrank at the last election.
Bik, a local resident who would only give his first name, said job security and economic management were particular concerns in the area, where there are many small businesses.
"I lost my job after 11 years, not because I was doing a bad job or my colleagues were doing a bad job, it's just that no one was making any money," he said.
"I'll be voting for the Liberals."
Coalition candidate Ron Delezio is well known to Australians as the father of Sophie, who was left critically injured after being hit by a car twice, in two separate incidents.
An electrician by trade, Mr Delezio has raised more than $2.5 million for Australian hospitals since his daughter's first accident a decade ago.
Watson is one of the most multicultural electorates in Australia, with around 66 per cent of the population speaking a language other than English at home.
It's also home to a large Islamic community. According to 2011 census data, around 20 per cent of the local population is Muslim.
