Four Aussie crews in canoe world finals

Beijing Olympic champion Ken Wallace has led four Australian crews in a charge into finals at the World Sprint Canoe Championships in Germany.

Four Australian crews qualified for finals on the second day of the World Sprint Canoe Championships in Germany, headed by Beijing gold medallist Ken Wallace.

The Queenslander was headed briefly in his K1 1000m semi-final before powering home to breeze into Saturday's final.

Murray Stewart and Jacob Clear, one half of the Olympic gold medal K4 squad, finished a comfortable second in their semi-final of the K2 1000m, while fellow Olympian Alana Nicholls made the final of the K1 500 metres.

Amy Peters and Alyce Burnett will start from lane one in the final of the K2 1000m.

Wallace got off to a solid start before pulling away in the final 250 metres to win comfortably in 3:37.45, 0.94 seconds ahead of Jost Zakrajsek of Slovenia.

The 30-year-old earlier dominated his heat and will be one of the favourites against London Olympic bronze medallist Max Hoff of Germany, Slovakian kayaker Peter Gelle and Danish star Rene Holten Poulsen.
