Leading politicians have been fixtures at multicultural community events virtually since the day the election was called.
Some researchers say, a so-called "ethnic vote", emerged with the 1970s Whitam Labor government's multicultural policies.
But while the "ethnic vote" was traditionally called a working class Labor vote - things seems to have changed.
