Members of the Aboriginal Provisional Government are meeting in Brisbane this week to discuss the need for Indigenous Sovereignty.
The Australian Indigenous movement held a panel discussion today as part of their public consultations on the question of sovereignty.
Australian Provisional Government founding members Bob Weatherall and Michael Mansell were joined by Brisbane elders, Aunties Lilla Watson and Mary Graham, in a video podcast hosted by the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association.
The Aboriginal Provisional Government was formed in 1990 to lobby for Indigenous self-determination.
The panel discussed sovereignty, Indigenous representation in Parliament and the question of a treaty, which every other Commonwealth Country with an Indigenous population already has in place.
There will be more video podcasts to come, seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait lslander comment on issues such as a treaty and sovereignty.
Mr Mansell said he was not concerned that his group is competing against other agencies with their own agendas, such as the Congress of Australia's First Peoples and the Federal Government's Advisory Council.
Aboriginal Provisional Government founding member and Deputy Chairman Geoff Clark said there were many examples overseas where Indigenous people have greater independence, such as the Canadian province of Nunavut.
Currently Aboriginal Provisional Government members do not support current moves to recognise Indigenous Australians in the Constitution.
