The Pope has sent a message of support for people in NSW affected by the devastating bushfire emergency.

"His Holiness Pope Francis has asked me to express his concern for the people of NSW and all who are affected by the devastation wrought by the extensive fires in the region," Vatican secretary of state Archbishop Pietro Parolin said in a statement.

"He prays extensively for those who have died and for those who have lost their homes and workplaces, as well as for the numerous personnel working to combat the fires."

The Pope wished affected communities solidarity and perseverance and sent his blessing, he said.
