Outlaw motorcycle gangs are expanding into South-East Asia and sharing information internationally, Australian authorities say.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana said many outlaw motorcycle gangs, such as the Hells Angels and the Rebels Motorcycle Club, were international clubs.
"They are establishing bases in South-East Asia which is of concern," he told reporters.
"They do operate, they do communicate together and they do assist each other with criminal activities."
Victorian Premier Denis Napthine said there was no doubt there were international links between OMCGs.
"There is clear evidence of communication, clear evidence of transfer of information between these gangs and even transfer of personnel and these international links need to be thoroughly examined and where possible, dealt with," Dr Napthine said.
Authorities are adopting a national approach in a bid to crack down on bikies, sharing information between federal, state and territory authorities.
A new operation will be launched, combining the forces of the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, to stop criminal gangs from entering the country.
Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan said the government would look at all avenues to make sure it was doing "everything we can" to crack down on OMCGs and stop criminal gangs from coming into Australia.
"Organised criminal gangs are often national gangs and they have very significant international links, we know that from some of the commentary about gangs that have been patching over," he said on Wednesday.
"We want to make sure they are stopped at the border before they can come and do Australia any harm."
Dr Napthine said bikie gangs were putting the community at risk due to their violent behaviour and standover tactics.
"There is no place for criminal bikie gangs here in Victoria ... desist, stop or we will stop you," he said.
