Police media says officers are responding to a suspicious device found in the car park at the rear of the building.

The bomb squad and specialist police are in attendance and Makerston Street is closed.

"A small amount of work areas have moved out of there as a precaution," a spokeswoman told AAP.

Police Minsiter Jack Dempsey said it was an operational matter.

"We obviously set a high standard in relation to security," he said.

"We'll obviously assess it at the highest degree until we know otherwise.

"And we'll work through the different security threats."
