Tour de France champion Chris Froome has capped a brilliant season by winning the Velo d'Or award as the best rider of 2013.

The Team Sky leader succeeded teammate Bradley Wiggins, who became the first Briton to win the Tour last year.

The 28-year-old Froome enjoyed a spectacular season, adding successes at the Tour of Oman, Criterium International, Tour de Romandie and Criterium du Dauphine to his Tour de France triumph.

Froome says his teammates "deserve credit as well because I couldn't have achieved what I've achieved this year without them."

Tour runner-up Nairo Quintana received the Velo d'Or Espoirs award for best young rider.

The awards are decided by a panel of cycling journalists.
