Fed Cup final to stand alone from 2014

The Fed Cup final will stand alone in women's tennis from 2014, no longer clashing with the WTA Tour's Tournament of Champions

Organisers of the Fed Cup have moved back the date of next year's final by a week to give the match its own slot in the 2014 tennis calendar.

The final has being clashing with the week-long WTA Tournament of Champions, the WTA's second-tier year-end event.

International Tennis Federation president Ricci Bitti says in a statement that the calendar change shows "flexibility and concern for the players" and will help them "continue to represent their country in this prestigious competition."

The lineup for this year's Fed Cup final, between Italy and Russia starting Saturday in Sardinia, has been weakened by the decision of Russia's highest-ranked players to play in the Tournament of Champions instead.

The 2014 final will be held on November 8-9.
