An Iraqi national has been extradited from Malaysia to face court over people-smuggling charges.

Two Australian Federal Police officers went to Kuala Lumpur in the past week to pick up the man, who allegedly organised three boats to take 763 people from Indonesia to Australian waters in 2001.

Operation Sovereign Borders commander Angus Campbell said the man would be charged in a Perth court on Friday.
