Anthony Mundine has defended controversial remarks he made on social media about homosexuality within Indigenous Australia.
After watching the first episode of Refern Now series two on ABC last night, Mundine used Facebook to slam the show’s inclusion of a homosexual character in a program representative of the Aboriginal culture.
But in a statement to NITV, he stood by his comments.
"I thought the show was inappropriate, especially when minors were watching. People want to be gay, that's their choice, but they don't need to promote the shit like it’s okay in our culture. Our men are warriors and would turn in their grave seeing us depicted like that," he said.
The episode which aggravated Mundine is centred around a gay Indigenous man fighting for the custody of his daughter.
Mundine reacted by publically stating that homosexuality is not a part of Aboriginal culture.
"Watching Redfern Now and they promoting homosexuality like it's okay in our culture. That ain't in our culture and our ancestors would have there head for it. Like my dad told me, God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve," he said in a post to Facebook.
