Liberal party strategist Mark Textor has apologised over Twitter for allegedly likening an Indonesian official to a porn star.

In a series of tweets aimed directly at the Indonesian president, Mr Textor yesterday lashed Indonesian Prime Minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for tweeting his outrage over Mr Abbott's response to revelations Australia tried to tap his phone.

"What sort of head of state communicates with a neighbouring government by twitter FFS? That's insensitive," Mr Textor tweeted.

In a third tweet, which now appears to have been deleted, Mr Textor refers to "a man who looks like a Filipino porn star," but later denied that tweet referred to the Indonesian President.

Mr Textor today took to Twitter to apologise for the comments, describing them as "unbecoming".

Tony Abbott today described the comments as "tacky" when quizzed on the issue in Question Time.
