Indigenous leaders say they're pleased the federal government has sought to revive the debate on constitutional recognition for Indigenous Australians.
The move by the Coalition comes after the former Labor government first pledged $10-million to promote the concept, but then shelved plans for a referendum on the matter, citing insufficient community support.
Central Land Council chairman Maurie Japarta-Ryan says recognition is achievable and not something for Australians to fear.
But Mr Ryan has told Zara Zaher its success depends on all sides of politics working together.
