The new fee, which is set to come into force this week, will buy successful applicants a visa valid for up to three months, The Global Mail reports.

Unsuccessful applicants will not be refunded the fee.

The media fee sits in contrast to the cost of gaining a visitor’s visa to Nauru, currently $100.

Nauru is home to hundreds of asylum sekeers held in detention on the island.
