Schapelle Corby has been released from Bali's Kerobokan prison to start serving parole.

A media pack gathered to see the convicted drug smuggler escorted from the jail in a police van to finalise paperwork at the prosecutor and corrections office.

The 36-year-old has served nine years of a 20-year sentence for smuggling more than four kilograms of marijuana into Indonesia.

Peter Ford is a Melbourne-based entertainment journalist.

He told Greg Dyett why he thinks that Schapelle Corby is attracting a huge deal of media attention.
