The Croatian PM says an Australian citizen accused of war crimes in Croatia would be treated fairly if he is extradited to stand trial there.

The Croatian Prime Minister has assured that an Australian citizen accused of war crimes in Croatia would be treated fairly if he is extradited to stand trial there.

Daniel Snedden -- who is also known as Dragan Vasiljkovic or Captain Dragan -- is wanted for questioning in Croatia over alleged war crimes committed during the 1990s conflict, when he commanded a Serb paramilitary group.

For more than five years Mr Snedden's been fighting extradition in the Australian courts, maintaining Croatia's pursuit of him is politically motivated.

The Australian government believes he should be extradited, but a recent Federal Court ruling that he's been denied procedural fairness may stall the process even further.

Croatia's Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic says as a member of the European Union, the country and its justice system have undergone intense scrutiny, and would afford Mr Snedden due process.

Mr Milanovic is speaking to Kristina Kukolja.
