Olympiakos win 41st Greek title

Despite resting players ahead of the Champions League rematch at Man United, Olympiakos beat Panthrakikos 2-0 to claim the Greek title.

Olympiakos claimed their 41st domestic football title with five games to spare after a 2-0 victory at home to Panthrakikos on Saturday.

A goal in the 35th minute from Paraguayan striker Nelson Valdez and a penalty by Spanish midfielder David Fuster in the 90th minute helped Olympiakos snap a two-match losing streak after going unbeaten before that.

Olympiakos captured their fourth straight league crown and their 16th in the last 18 years.

The match was played at an empty Karaisiaki Stadium due to a punishment by the Super League meted out after violence by supporters in a 3-0 Panathinaikos derby win earlier this month.

Olympiakos coach Michel rested a number of his starters in the match against Panthrakikos due to next week's Champions League rematch at Manchester United.
