Man almost gets hit by Caltrain

Video of a man nearly being struck by a speeding train in Redwood City, California, has been released in a bid to remind commuters to stay safe.

Video of a man's near-fatal encounter with a locomotive has been released in the United States in a bid to raise public awareness of safety around train tracks.

The video shows several pedestrians ignoring boom gates and sirens as an express train approaches a station in Redwood City, south of San Francisco. Moments later, a man lagging behind the main group runs across, a split second before the train passes.

The man has not been idenitifed.

The incident look place in February, according to Caltrain, a communter rail operator in the San Francisco and Santa Clara counties of California.

Trains travelling the route can reach a maximum speed of 127 kilometres an hour.

Caltrain said such incidents slow the system down as they have to be investigated just like collisions.
