How is South Africa doing since first fully democratic elections?

Two decades after all South Africans became eligible to vote for the first time, how is South Africa tracking?

South Africans mark 20 years of freedom next month.

 

April 27, 1994, was the first time all South Africans were able to vote, as apartheid fell into the gutter of history.

 

After that election, Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president.

 

Two decades on, how is South Africa tracking?

 

The people will have their say in a general election on May 7.

 

And government officials are on the front foot trying to define South Africa's narrative since the first democratic election in 1994.

 

The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane has visited Australia to engage with the 145,000 South Africans who have made Australia their home and who are eligible to vote in May.

 

SBS Radio's Dutch broadcaster Anneke Mackay-Smith asked Minister Chabane what the ANC government is doing to deal with issues such as corruption.
