A Melbourne woman found with serious head injuries in her Melbourne home suffered a tragic household accident and was not attacked as first thought, police say.
Shey Webber, 35, was found unconscious and bleeding in her Warranwood home on November 6, 2013, sparking a seven-month investigation by local detectives that initially focused on the theory she was attacked by a man she met while online dating.
The following month, police said forensic detectives suspected the woman may have fallen in her home, but the investigation continued fleshing out the attack theory, with detectives trawling through hundreds of online profiles looking for a possible suspect.
But on Thursday, the detectives said their investigation is at an end.
"Following a thorough forensic investigation, police are now treating the incident as a tragic accident," police said.
