Factbox: Major floods in Europe since 2010

Europe has suffered flooding many times since 2010, though the current deluge sweeping through the Balkans is the worst in that region for more than a century.Since Wednesday, record rainfall has caused historic floods in Bosnia, Serbia and parts of Croatia, killing at least 47 people and forcing 65,000 to abandon their homes. Here are some other major European floods.

2013 

June 2-10: Central Europe: Flooding in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland leave 19 people dead. In the Czech Republic, where the bodies of 10 people were recovered, six others disappear as well.

Damage is estimated at several billion euros.

September 12-15: Romania: Nine people die and almost 7,000 are evacuated due to flooding in eastern parts of the country.

November 17: Italy: Flooding in and around the Sardinian port of Olbia leaves 17 dead and thousands homeless.

2012

July 4: Turkey: Floods in the northern province of Samsun kill 13 people.

July 7: Russia: The southwestern region of Krasnodar is hit by floods that kill 172 people and affect 35,000 others.

September 28: Spain: Hundreds are evacuated and 10 people die in Andalusia and the neighbouring southern region of Murcia.

2011

October 25-26: Italy: Floods leave 10 people dead and cause hundreds of millions of euros in damage in the northeastern region of Lunigiana and the central Tuscany region. In early November, six people are killed in the northwestern region around Genoa.

November 3-10: France: Floods in the southern Mediterranean regions of Var and the Maritime Alps leave five people dead and one missing.

2010

February 20: Madeira: Floods and landslides on this Portuguese island west of Morocco kill more than 50 people and cause an estimated one billion euros ($1.37 billion) in damage.

May/June: Poland/Czech Republic: Record surges in the Vistule and Oder river valleys leave 22 people dead in Poland and six others in the Czech Republic.

June 15-16: France: Floods leave 23 dead and two missing in the Var province, and cause more than a billion euros in damage.

July/August: Romania: Widespread floods leave 26 people dead and cause more than 850 million euros ($1.2 billion) in damage.

August 7-8: Central Europe: Fourteen people die in the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania and Poland. Thousands of others are evacuated from their homes.

August 26: Turkey: In the northern mountain region of Rize, 13 people die from flooding and landslides.

October 16-17: Russia: Flooding leaves 25 people dead in the area around Krasnodar.
