Rod Davies to quit Super Rugby for France

Former Wallaby and Queensland Super Rugby fullback Rod Davies has signed a two-year deal with relegated French club Biarritz.

Relegated Biarritz have signed Queensland Super Rugby fullback Rod Davies and New Zealand's Bryn Evans, the Pro D2 French club confirmed on Tuesday.

Davies, 25, also plays on the wing and will join Biarritz on a two-year deal after finishing the Super Rugby season with the Reds.

Nicknamed 'The Rocket', Davies played one Test for the Wallabies in 2011.

Former Hurricanes and Blues lock Evans, 29, has played for three seasons with London Irish, and arrives on a one-year deal at the south western side, now coached by Ireland's Eddie O'Sullivan.

Evans has two caps for New Zealand in 2009 against France.

Biarritz were relegated from the elite Top 14 after a horrendous campaign and will play in the second division next season.

Despite a budget of 11.7 million euros ($A17.55 million) which will put them among the Pro D2 big hitters, the club is rebuilding following the departure of several top players.
