Christian groups have called for governments to regulate outdoor advertising after a car hire company came under fire for featuring offensive and misogynous slogans on its vans.
The slogan - "In every princess, there is a little slut who wants to try it" - was spotted on a Wicked Campers van in the Blue Mountains by an 11-year-old girl, prompting her mother to set up an online petition to have the Brisbane-based company remove its slogans.
The change.org petition to "Eliminate misogynistic and degrading slogans and imagery" has more than 90,000 signatures.
The Australian Christian Lobby says such slogans undermine the worth of women.
"Our children and young people will continue to be exposed to such inappropriate content if our governments fail to intervene," ACL spokeswoman Wendy Francis said on Tuesday.
Wicked Campers had ignored calls from the Advertising Standards Bureau to keep its slogans in line with community standards, she said.
"Governments need to open their eyes to the harm that companies like Wicked Campers are causing against vulnerable members of society," she said.
She said sexualisation of the everyday environment was causing an increase in sexual assault, eating disorders and depression,
Wicked Campers has come under the scrutiny of the ASB for slogans such as "Women are like banks - once you withdraw you lose interest" and other more explicit slogans.
