Australian Muslims are among growing numbers of people around the world who are using Twitter to condemn Islamic State with the hashtag #notinmyname.

Australian Muslims are joining the #notinmyname campaign on social media to denounce IS and remind people the group does not represent Islam.

The campaign was originally launched by UK charity Active Change Foundation (ACF) following the murder of British aid worker David Haines.

A #notinmyname video released by the charity last week has been viewed more than 60,000 times.

Australian Muslims have also joined the movement to distance themselves from the IS group, which they say Muslims are being unfairly linked to.

"I am a Muslim and I am proud ISIS does not represent me or Islam #notinmyname," one person tweeted.

"ISIS does not represent Islam. Educate yourself. #notinmyname," wrote another.
