Ebola scare for Australian man in Thailand

Australian officials are working to confirm whether an Australian man in Thailand has Ebola.

Medical authorities say the unnamed man recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo and has been told to stay at home after recording an elevated temperature.

The man had been working in the oil industry in the DRC, where 49 people have died from the Ebola virus. The outbreak is not related to the West African emergency.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said, “Australian consular officials in Bangkok are working with the local authorities who are currently monitoring an Australian citizen for possible symptoms of the Ebola virus. For privacy reasons and Thai security concerns we are unable to provide any further detail."
