An explosion at a fireworks factory in central western NSW has sparked a large fire with multiple buildings alight.

Several fire crews are responding to the explosion at Bogan Gate, near Parkes.

A NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesman said some nearby residents had left their homes as a precaution.

The site was once a military base.
