A firefighter has been injured during efforts to contain two bushfires in South Australia's Barossa Valley.

The man, from a private farm fire unit, broke his arm while fighting a blaze at Springton.

A CFS spokesman said the fire and a second blaze at Angaston had been contained, but almost 200 firefighters were continuing to attend to spot fires at both locations.

The Springton grassfire burnt through about 700 hectares, and is believed to have been caused by a tree trunk falling on power lines.

The Angaston fire, which began on Tuesday about noon, is believed to have ignited when a tree stump, which had recently been hit by lightning, rekindled.

It burnt through more than 1400ha after travelling rapidly in very windy conditions.

Barossa Valley winery Hutton Vale suffered extensive damage after the fire burnt through up to half of its vineyards.

A spokeswoman said firefighters were still putting out spot fires in the vineyards, which prevented a thorough assessment of the damage.

Winemaker Stephen Henschke said the blaze came less than a kilometre away from his neighbouring family vineyard, forcing most workers to leave the building.

"It took off like a rocket," he told ABC Radio.

A major concern now was the effect of the residual smoke on the grapes, which would not be known until closer to when they were picked, he said.

The funeral for volunteer Brian Johnston is being held on Wednesday.

The CFS veteran of 49 years died last week while attending a fire in Rendelsham in the state's southeast.
