Marinko Matosevic will make the most of his first round elimination at the Brisbane International by replacing injured Matt Ebden in Australia's Hopman Cup team.
Ebden injured his left calf during a three-set loss to Poland's Jerzy Janowicz on Sunday night at the Perth tournament.
Matosevic's 2-6 7-6 (7-0) 7-5 loss to American Steve Johnson on Tuesday means the world No.77 was immediately approached to take Ebden's spot for Wednesday night's clash with France.
It means Matosevic won't have time to dwell on his Brisbane performance, instead packing his bags to travel across the country in time for a match against Frenchman Benoit Paire.
Queenslander Ben Mitchell was originally slated to take Ebden's spot but Matosevic said he couldn't knock back the opportunity.
"I'll take any chance I get to represent Australia," the outspoken Victorian said.
Matosevic remains committed to playing at the Sydney International next week, meaning another cross-country flight.
The 29-year-old, who says he was happy with his 2014 performances despite a drop in his world ranking, says getting as many matches as possible before this month's Australian Open is what it's all about.
"It's been a while since I played my last match," he said.
"I hadn't played a match for two and a half months.
"Hoping for a Tuesday start (in Sydney). Made the quarters there last year, it's a great event.
"That's the only negative side, the travel."
