As the Liberals get set to vote on Tony Abbott's leadership, the prime minister's approval rating is at a record low and the coalition has recorded its worst Newspoll result since 2009.
Liberal MPs and senators will gather at Parliament House on Monday at 9am (AEDT) to vote on a leadership spill motion brought by WA MPs Luke Simpkins and Don Randall.
According to the latest Newspoll, published by News Corp, Mr Abbott is far from the public favourite.
The prime minister's performance rating has fallen nine points to 24 per cent - significantly below his previous low in June of 30 per cent.
Compared with the two likely contenders for the LNP leadership - Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop - Mr Abbott is easily the least popular of the trio.
The poll, which was taken at the weekend, gave Mr Turnbull a 64 per cent to 25 per cent over Mr Abbott, while Ms Bishop was ahead of the prime minister 59 per cent to 27 per cent.
Meanwhile, the coalition's primary vote is down three points to an eight-month low of 35 per cent.
Labor is up two points to 41 per cent, and the Greens are unchanged at 12 per cent.
In two-party terms, the government's vote is down to 43 per cent, with Labor on 57 per cent.
