An academic has come up with what's being termed the first online searchable and extendable dictionary for the Indigenous Yolngu language.

The creator is John Greatorex from Charles Darwin University.

Mr Greatorex says students and others interested in Indigenous languages no longer need buy a CD or app to access them.

He's worked with Yolngu advisers to the university's Yolngu Studies program, and he talked with Ron Sutton about what it will mean.
