No deadline for Alonso probe: FIA

FIA's Formula One race director Charlie Whiting says there is no time frame for the investigation into McLaren star Fernando Alonso's testing crash.

World motorsport body FIA's Formula One race director Charlie Whiting says there is no deadline for the investigation into McLaren star driver Fernando Alonso's crash at pre-season testing.

Two-time world champion Alonso will miss this weekend's season opening Australian Grand Prix after suffering concussion while testing last month at Barcelona.

There was speculation that Alonso was injured in the car before he hit the wall testing at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Whiting said they were no closer to getting to the bottom of the crash's cause but would not put a deadline on the investigation.

"We are working with McLaren and our medical department are looking at all the information they can find," he said on Thursday.

"I am certainly not qualified to comment on anything from a medical perspective.

"We are still talking to McLaren about anything mechanical.

"Our medical department are talking to the people who treated him in hospital, that is all I can say.

"We can't put a time frame on it."
