AFP investigates IS graffiti in Cairns

Australian Federal Police are investigating graffiti on a billboard in Cairns that promises death to Australians at the hands of the IS group.

Federal police are investigating a death threat scrawled on a Cairns billboard, purportedly from the Islamic State group.

Australian Federal Police confirmed they had been notified about the graffiti on a sign in the Boardwalk area near Cairns Airport.

The message reads: "F*** Aust and death, ISIL will rule, f*** the Westen (sic) World."

An AFP spokesperson told AAP they were investigating, but would not comment on whether it was considered a legitimate threat.
