Tony Abbott's government has secured its best Newspoll result since September.

According to a Newspoll conducted for News Corp at the weekend, the coalition's support has increased by three points over the past fortnight, and is now sitting at 41 per cent.

Labor's primary vote fell two points to 37 per cent, but it still leads the government on two-party-preferred terms, now with a margin of 51 to 49 per cent.

Although still trailing the ALP on a two-party basis, the result is good news for the Abbott government, which two weeks ago was lagging 10 points behind.

The prime minister is also looking at improved ratings personally, with support for Mr Abbott lifting by three points to 36 per cent.

Support for Bill Shorten is down three points to 41 per cent, and his net satisfaction rating has fallen from -3 points to -11.

But the opposition leader is still notching up better approval ratings than Mr Abbott, whose net satisfaction is at -32 points.
