Queensland's premier has sacked embattled state MP Billy Gordon from the Labor party.
The announcement comes after allegations of domestic violence against the MP were referred to police and he posted details of his criminal record.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says she "feels sick" that Mr Gordon's past was kept from her.
"I'm appalled, I'm shocked and I feel sick in the stomach," she told reporters in Townsville.
Ms Palaszczuk also called on Mr Gordon to resign from parliament.
She was aware that losing a possible by-election in Mr Gordon's seat of Cook could lead to the fall of her government less than two months after the state election.
"This is one of the toughest calls I've had to make," the premier said.
"In the best interests of Queensland he should resign."
Deputy Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek stopped short of calling on Mr Gordon to resign, but asked why the premier had not acted earlier.
"The question is how much the premier knew, when she knew it and why she didn't do something about it before," he said.
Crossbench Katter's Australian Party MP Robbie Katter said he would like to be briefed on the substance of allegations.
"We would find it very hard to support him in parliament if the allegations are found to be true and correct," Mr Katter told AAP.
Speaker Peter Wellington earlier called on Mr Gordon to resign from parliament.
"He is the only person who can decide that, the parliament cannot sack him," Mr Wellington told AAP.
"I believe the member for Cook should resign and there should be a by-election as soon as possible.
"It's up to the member to choose himself, but the honourable thing is to resign."
Comment has been sought from Mr Gordon.
