NSW Police are reopening a Sydney street near Martin Place after taking one man into custody over a "suspicious item".
Phillip Street had been locked down between Martin Place and Hunter Street after police were called to the area around 4pm.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said one man was in custody, detained after the Mental Health Act after he called in a threat.
He has been taken to Day Street Police Station, where he continues to assist police with their inquiries.
Buildings were reportedly evacuated, including the NSW premier's office, but the area has now been declared safe.
The incident comes almost six months after the deadly siege at Martin Place's Lindt cafe.
