Minute silence for Bianchi

Formula One drivers will hold a minute silence before Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix to pay respect to Jules Bianchi, who died on Friday.

Formula One is to pay its respects to driver Jules Bianchi with a minute of silence before Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, the F1 official website said.

Bianchi died on Friday from head injuries suffered at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix and many drivers attended his funeral in Nice, France, on Tuesday.

"A minute's silence will be observed in honour of Jules Bianchi prior to the start of this weekend's race in Hungary," the F1 statement said on Wednesday.

The silence will take place at 1.45 pm local time (2145 AEST) ahead of the race which begins at 2 pm.

"I will be carrying Jules with me in my prayers and thoughts, not only this race but for the rest of my driving days," reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton said. "I know he'd want us to race hard as he did, and so I will."
