Soldier in Townsville facing drug charges

A soldier in Townsville arrested on drug charges has led police to a number of other soldiers.

The arrest of a Townsville soldier on drug charges led police to other soldiers, Defence says.

The unnamed soldier was arrested in a Townsville licensed venue on August 14 and charged with one count of supplying narcotics and two of possession of drugs.

In a "hot issues brief" posted on the Defence website, it said the soldier's arrest led to a broader Queensland police investigation into a number of soldiers in Townsville.

A search warrant was executed on a private residence where drugs were found.

Defence said the Army was assisting Queensland police. Inquiries by the Army and police were continuing.
