The Australian Border Force has spent almost $15,000 on promotional plush toys.

According to a government tender, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection ordered 2000 “plush ABF branded detector [sic] dogs”, at approximately $7.50 per toy.

The contract was awarded to Melbourne-based company Wompro International Pty Ltd, whose site boasts products that “transcend age, gender and geographical barriers”.

Some of the dogs will be given to detector dog foster carer volunteers, Fairfax Media reports.

Australian Border Force made headlines last month when they cancelled the controversial Operation Fortitude less than 12 hours after it was announced.
