Driverless cars to be tested in Australia

Self-driving cars will take to an Adelaide highway in November in the Southern Hemisphere's first ever on-road trial of the technology.

Buckle up Adelaide - the Southern Hemisphere's first ever on-road trial of driverless cars will be held in the South Australian capital.

Self-driving cars will be tested on the Southern Expressway in Adelaide's south on November 7 and 8 as part of an international conference into driverless technology.

"Multiple vehicles (will be) conducting manoeuvres such as overtaking, lane changing, emergency braking and the use of on and off ramps," Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan said as he announced the conference.
