Actress and singer Jane Birkin has dropped her demands for her name to be removed from a line of luxury handbags after bosses at Hermes made changes to their animal treatment practices.

In July, the British star called for her name to be taken from the popular "Hermes Birkin" bag after she read a report by officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) suggesting cruel methods were used to acquire skin from crocodiles to make the accessory.

Bosses at Hermes looked into the claims and identified an "isolated irregularity" in the slaughter process at a crocodile farm in Texas, according to Reuters news agency.

They have recommended procedures to the farm owners and will drop them if they do not comply.

A spokesman for the fashion house says, "Jane Birkin has advised us that she is satisfied by the measures taken by Hermes".
