Sunken WA prawn trawler resurfaces

Authorities have refloated a prawn trawler that sank off the coast of Western Australia with three fishermen on board.

Maritime authorities have recovered a prawn trawler that sank off Western Australia's Pilbara coast with three fishermen on board.

The 13-metre trawler, named Returner, was found on August 2 with the body of 57-year-old skipper Murray Turner on board.

He and crew members Mason Carter, 26, and Chad Fairley, 30, had been expected to return to Point Samson, near Karratha, on July 15.

Mr Carter and Mr Fairley are still missing.

It has taken authorities more than a week to bring the vessel to the surface.

Police say the trawler will now be towed to a secure marine facility for further examination.

Inspector Garry Nicolau said earlier this month he hoped the vessel's recovery would provide answers about what happened in the lead up to the sinking.

"There are families still seeking answers, still searching to find out what happened at sea, and the resurfacing of Returner may help answer some of those questions," he said.
