Repairs to Christchurch churches continue

The doors of St Anne's Catholic Church in Christchurch are reopening and other churches will follow as earthquake repairs are made.

St Anne's Catholic Church in Christchurch is opening its doors for the first time since the devastating 2011 New Zealand earthquakes.

There'll be a Saturday night vigil and a confirmation mass on Sunday, the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch says.

The rear wall and narthex of the Woolston church have been strengthened, and connections improved between the roof and main structure.

The tower has been removed and a cross has been placed there.

St Anne's is one of the first of several Catholic churches expected to be reopened shortly. St Peters in Beckenham will open on November 21, St Matthews in Bryndwr may be open by early December and Our Lady of Assumption in Hoon Hay is expected to be open for Christmas.
