Hackers and technologists will come together in November to develop solutions to help refugees, at a hackathon in Sydney.
Hackathons are events for programmers and software developers, business people, storytellers and others to use their skills and ideas to develop solutions.
The TechFugees Australia Hackathon will have a more personal touch, the organisers have explained.
"Refugees who have already settled in Australia will participate in the event to help teams deeply understand problems and challenges faced by new settlers," the event's promotion page says.
Involved with the hackathon is Settlement Services International (SSI), who assist refugees and asylum seekers with settling into Australia.
SSI chief executive Violet Roumeliotis said the hackathon was a good opportunity to support refugees, ahead of the additional intake of 12,000 Syrian refugees the government announced in 2015.
"Settling as a refugee in a new country can be an overwhelming and daunting task," Ms Roumeliotis said.
New refugees often faced challenges, like barriers to employment and education, she said.
"Hackathons have traditionally produced impressive results across the globe, and we are delighted to contribute."

It is not yet known what will be developed at the Techfugees Australia Hackathon, but solutions in other hackathons have often used government databases and services to create solutions based on web technology.
At other hackathons, teams of people or individuals pitch ideas for projects at the events.
