NBL Bullets announce new chief

Mitchell Murphy has been named chief executive of the Brisbane Bullets ahead of their return to the NBL next season.

The Brisbane Bullets have announced the appointment of Mitchell Murphy as chief executive ahead of their return to the revamped NBL next season.

Former Newcastle Jets A-League boss Murphy is the ideal man to spearhead the return of foundation club Brisbane, according to NBL general manager Jeremy Loeliger.

"We are thrilled someone of Mitchell's experience and calibre has come on board," Loeliger said.

"He has an extensive network of corporate, government and media relationships throughout Brisbane which will be invaluable to the rebirth of the team."

A former journalist, Murphy has also served on the board of the Wollongong Hawks, and was looking forward to joining the Bullets for the 2016-17 season.

A foundation NBL club in 1979, the Bullets are being resurrected, having left the league in 2008.

"The brand is still very much a household name in Queensland and I feel honoured to be at the club's helm," said Murphy.

"I'm confident that the wider sporting and corporate community is going to welcome the Bullets return with open arms."

The Bullets have won three NBL championships (1985, 1987 and 2007) with longtime captain Leapin' Leroy Loggins among the club's greats.
