At least four people have died and 29 are injured after a pile-up of around 70 vehicles on a Slovenian highway.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon amid foggy conditions at Senozece, 50km southeast of Ljubljana, the STA news agency reported.

Police, firefighters and paramedics worked for hours to extract all the injured from the massive wreckage.

The pile-up is the largest ever in Slovenia in the number of vehicles involved - among them several trucks and a bus.
