An Australian man, who woke from a coma speaking fluent Mandarin, has found love on the cult hit Chinese dating show If You Are The One.

Melbourne man Ben McMahon was injured in a car accident in 2013 and spent more than a week in a coma.

When he woke up he could only speak fluent Mandarin.

Now he has found love on one of two special Australian episodes of the show, which airs on SBS2 on Monday night, with Sydney lawyer Feng Guo.
He told ABC radio he had always wanted to go on the show.

"I thought I'd put myself out there and find out if I was the one," he said.

"It's a good insight into Chinese culture and just some of the crazy things that go on and the requirements [Chinese people have] for relationships."

Mr McMahon was one of 10 men and 16 women who travelled from Australian to China to film the episodes.

If You Are The One sees men try to impress a group of 24 women in a series of videos about themselves and their lives.

The women each have a light they can turn off when they lose interest in the man speaking.

The man is then able to choose from the girls who still have their light on.

"You get around 45 minutes onstage with 24 girls ... to sell yourself," Mr McMahon told ABC Radio.

He and Ms Guo are still together in a long-distance relationship.

Since his coma Mr McMahon has continued to work on his Mandarin, including representing Australia at an international Mandarin competition in China in 2013.
