It seems Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull isn't the only one in Tony Abbott's sights.
He is also after the best waves he can find - whether they are technically his to go after or not.
The former prime minister was pictured surfing at Tea Tree Bay near Noosa on Monday next to a young female surfer with a slightly put-out expression.
It turns out the surfer was 17-year-old Ivy Thomas and Mr Abbott had just stolen her wave.
“I paddled out and he was just sitting there on his board, waiting for a wave," Ivy told the Guardian Australia.
"It was so bizarre.
“Because I was on the inside of him and it’s a right-hand break, I technically had right of way. That was supposed to be my wave – but I don’t really mind.
“I saw that he was going for it as well, but I wasn’t going to call him off, like, ‘That’s my wave!’
“You can’t do that to an ex-prime minister.”
The photograph of the "bizarre" moment was captured by Bailey Eldering who sent the image on to Ivy.
"It was such a fluke that there was a photographer out there as well," Ivy told the Guardian Australia.
"I’m so glad there’s evidence because I think no one would have believed me.”
