Aussie Barton advances in Houston tennis

Australian qualifier Matthew Barton has won his first-round tennis match against Guido Andreozzi at the US Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston.

Australian qualifier Matthew Barton has won through to the second round of the US Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston.

The 24-year-old defeated Argentine seventh seed Guido Andreozzi 6-3 6-4 without conceding a break of serve.

The world No.270 Barton also won an ATP Challenger Tour tournament in California last month, before qualifying for the main draw of the clay championships.

Barton, the only Australian in the main draw, will now face world No.25 American Jack Sock.
